  • A Bona Fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ) is a narrow exception to anti-discrimination laws (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act) allowing employers to hire based on sex, religion, or national origin only if it is reasonably necessary to normal business operations. It cannot be used for race and is generally limited to privacy, authenticity, or safety needs.
